Will you hug that college degree in the walnut frame? Will you ask to be carried to the garage so you can sit in your car? Will you find comfort in rereading your financial statement? Of course not. What will matter then will be people. If relationships will matter most then, shouldn't they matter most now?” ― Max Lucado
Is this quote from Max Lucado an eye-opener to you? Maybe you realise now that you have been working and working and working, not realising that you are neglecting your husband/wife, your children, your animals. Maybe you have been working long hours and studying to ensure you are qualified for the next promotion, and this is how you have been living your life for the past 10+ years. Maybe you are so focussed on making provision for the future that you don’t realise that the future might consist only of yourself, because you don’t have any relationship with those who you are doing it for.
The top of the ladder is often a very lonely place. I’m not saying that we should not have any ambition or that we should not strive to better our circumstances or that one should not make provision for retirement. It is all about balance. Work hard and play hard – equally.
